Welcome back, fans, to the Grizzlies Insider, where you can find the latest NBA news and analysis from Daily Memphian staffers Drew Hill, Chris Herrington and Geoff Calkins.
Let’s face it.
There isn’t a lot of NBA news happening right now, besides the Finals matchup between the Lakers and the Heat.
And all is quiet in Memphis, except for Ja Morant, of course, who has a knack for finding his way into the headlines.
The latest bit of Morant news comes from the league’s release of the top 15 jersey sales since the bubble restart. Topping that list (surprise!) was global superstar LeBron James.
Morant, however, found his name 15th on the sales list, with consumers purchasing his restart jersey more than any other rookie. Yes, that includes Zion Williamson.
The list is a testament to Morant’s quickly rising star power, his social media savvy — he also gained 363,988 followers on Twitter and Instagram over that span — and his play on the court, which led the Grizzlies over the nine-game stretch.
There is no question that the point guard from small-town South Carolina is rapidly becoming a global sensation and one of the most prominent players in franchise history.
