Welcome back to your Grizzlies Insider, where we deliver the latest NBA news and analysis straight from Daily Memphian staffers Drew Hill, Chris Herrington and Geoff Calkins right to your inbox.

Ja Morant decided it on Jan. 4, a week after suffering the ankle sprain that would hold him out of eight straight games.

“High-top Kobe’s the rest of the year,” Morant said.

The star point guard, sponsored by Nike, did not want to risk wearing low-top basketball shoes again. He was going to stick with Nike’s model, and the type that honors a late legend.

So far, Morant has kept his word since his return. He wears the same Nike Kobe 9 model but switches the colorway nearly every game.

There’s only one problem with that idea. If he’s dialing back his creativity in favor of comfort, how is Morant supposed to show off his massive shoe collection?

“Might show y’all some of the sneak collection since I’m wearing high-top Kobe’s the rest of the season & y’all won’t be able to see them this season,” Morant tweeted Wednesday.

Later that day, Morant sprawled out just a “lil bit” of his collection inside of his home — hundreds of shoes — and posted a video to his Instagram story.

It’s a sight to behold. Even if Morant wore a different pair for each of the 72 regular-season games, he wouldn’t come close to showing all of them off.

But it’s better this way. The biggest sneakerhead Grizzlies fan would argue that.

Because the No. 1 priority for Memphis is keeping Morant on the floor, no matter his style. Here’s to hoping those high-top Kobe’s can do that.
