Welcome back to the Tigers Football Insider, where we bring you the latest news and analysis from The Daily Memphian’s Steven Johnson each week.

It’s been relatively quiet on the football front since the conclusion of spring practice in April.

Don’t expect that last much longer though as coach Ryan Silverfield and the rest of the staff will have a busy summer on their hands.

Recruiting will return to a bit of normalcy with the NCAA-mandated dead period ending on June 1.

After the first of the month, it’ll be all hands on deck as the staff will be hosting prospect camps and official visits from recruits like Texas safety Jaidan Scott.

In fact the Tigers’ first prospect camp will be on June 1 with subsequent dates on on June 6, June 13 and June 27.

Memphis also will host a linemen and 7-0n-7 camp on June 24. These evaluation dates will be crucial for Silverfield and company to identify which players they want to turn the heat up on.

The Tigers have just two commitments in Class of 2022 so far with Georgia running back Sutton Smith and ECS snapper Bennett Brady.

That matches the trend nationally of schools taking their time to accept commitments. Being able to size up a recruit in person is absolutely crucial and is normally the final piece in evaluations.

Don’t be surprised to see a string of new offers and possible commitments once camp season gets started. The Tigers finished with the best recruiting class in program history in 2021 and Silverfield will hope to top that in 2022.
