Welcome back to your Grizzlies Insider, where we deliver the latest NBA news and analysis straight from Daily Memphian staffers Drew Hill, Chris Herrington and Geoff Calkins right into your inbox.
Gamers, prepare to hear a familiar voice this season.
On Wednesday, NBA2K, the league’s official video game franchise, announced that all home arenas in the upcoming game will feature the voice of each unique public address announcer.
So, yes, that means FedExForum PA man Marcus Tucker will be featured in the game. Grizzlies fans will get to hear his voice call out the Memphis starting lineup before every matchup.
Over the last decade, the NBA2k franchise has become a larger part of the league’s culture, from franchises’ ownership of eSports teams, such as Grizz Gaming, to players often arguing about their virtual ratings.
The addition of local PA announcers is just another way to make the game feel like the real deal.
So sit back and listen, Memphis gamers: “Aaaaaat guard, 6-3 out of Murray State. Nuuuuumber 12. Jaaaaa Mooooorant!”
Photographer Patrick Lantrip captured the scene from the third “Grizzlies Garage Sale,” which was held in the main lobby of FedExForum on Saturday, Aug. 28.
