Welcome back to The To-Do List, where Daily Memphian staffers highlight can’t-miss events and fun activities heading into the weekend.

The Cooper-Young Festival returns, the show goes on for Memphis Music Hall of Famers ZZ Top and the Brooks Museum hosts a major new exhibit. That and more are among our picks for this week.

Sheryl Crow at Live at the Garden, Friday:

Nearby Kennett, Missouri’s favorite daughter takes the stage at Radians Amphitheater. I’ll save you “winding road” or “soak up the sun” jokes (it is a night show, after all). Crow has sold 50 million albums and won nine Grammys, so you probably know the drill here. Memphis Botanic Garden. 8 p.m. Tickets are $55 and $95. See here for more info.

Cooper-Young Festival, Saturday:

After canceling last year’s annual festival due to COVID, the popular Cooper-Young Festival is back, with live music, art, crafts, food and most especially people filling both streets from morning until early evening. While there are no COVID-specific requirements at this free outdoor festival, masks will be available for free, and there will be a vaccination clinic on hand. 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. See here for more info.

“On Christopher Street: Transgender Portraits by Mark Seliger” at the Brooks Museum, starting Saturday:

Portrait photographer Mark Seliger has shot figures such as Barack Obama and Oprah Winfrey, but in this exhibit, making its museum debut at the Brooks, he captures figures within his own Greenwhich Village neighborhood, where Christropher Street, home to the Stonewall Inn, has been and continues to be a sanctuary for LGTBQ+ residents and visitors. Eric Barnes interviewed Seliger on his “Sidebar” podcast this week. I also have more on the exhibit, from Seliger and curator Dr. Rosamund Garrett, here. Starting Sept. 18. See here for more info.

SneakFest at Agricenter International, Saturday:

This “gathering of sneakerheads and urban fashion connoisseurs” will be a place for buying, selling and trading. What do you think I could get for my original Air Jordans? Does it matter that my dad has been mowing the lawn in them for 10 years? 1 p.m. - 6 p.m. $20. See here for more info.

WLOK Stone Soul Picnic at the Levitt Shell, Saturday:

This annual event from gospel station WLOK has live music at the Shell throughout the afternoon and evening, starting with Memphis gospel and culminating with Stax soul/funk greats the Bar-Kays. Free. 3 p.m. - 9 p.m. See here for more info.

ZZ Top at the Orpheum Theatre, Sunday:

Despite being the quintessential Texas blues-rock band, ZZ Top has more than a little Memphis in them. They recorded seven albums at Memphis’ Ardent Studios, starting with 1973’s “Tres Hombres” and climaxing with 1983’s blockbuster “Eliminator.” That was enough to land the group in the Memphis Music Hall of Fame. Vocalist-bassist Dusty Hill died in July, but the band has continued its current 50th anniversary tour, with one of the band’s longtime roadies filling in for Hill. 7:30 p.m. Tickets start at $59.50.
