Welcome back to your Grizzlies Insider, where the season has begun and we deliver the latest NBA news and analysis straight to your inbox twice a week.

Typically, the portion of Grizzlies shootaround open to the media features a handful of players standing around shooting free throws.

But on Thursday morning, it was a sight to behold.

That’s because Ja Morant, who sprained his knee last Friday and was expected to miss “a few weeks,” was back on the court shooting shots and dribbling around his teammates.

The point guard was flaunting his signature smile. His worry was limited. In fact, Morant wasn’t even wearing a knee brace.

“Back soon,” Morant tweeted on Wednesday night.

And maybe it will be sooner than anyone expected.

When Morant was helped off the court following a non-contact knee injury, Grizzlies fans everywhere assumed the worst. Memphis has not officially updated the status of its star, other than ruling him out of the game against the Thunder on Thursday night. The earliest the team could comment on the latest developments is prior to the game at 5:15 p.m during coach Taylor Jenkins’ press conference.
