Black Lodge, the more-than-a-movie-rental store, will be showing Christmas-themed movies on its in-house big screen all night, starting at 4:30 p.m. with something called “Santa Claus vs. the Devil,” which is a 1959 Mexican film that’s developed cult status (it got the “Mystery Science Theater” treatment). At 6 p.m. is “Home Alone” — perhaps you’ve heard of it. And at 7:45 p.m., it’s “The Nightmare Before Christmas.” Free. 405 N. Cleveland St. See here for more info. — Chris Herrington

Rock and Roll Holiday at Hernando’s Hideaway, Friday:

The near-Graceland roadhouse gets back to its roots this weekend with a pre-Christmas rockabilly night, featuring live music from the Brad Birkedahl Trio and vintage sounds from DJ Amy Dee. 6 p.m. $10 cover. 3210 Old Hernando Rd. See here for more info. — Herrington

Start the tour in the Westin lobby, where local singer-songwriter and guitarist Chris Gales will be performing a free acoustic show. Gales, whose sound is influenced by Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye and Dave Matthews, has been performing on Beale (and all over the world) since 2010. 6 to 9 p.m. Free. 170 Lt. George W. Lee Ave. Click here for more information. — Bianca Phillips

Frog Squad at High Cotton Brewing Co., Friday:

Christmas Eve Eve is one of those strange days that feels like a holiday but isn’t quite yet. But since it falls on a Friday this year, there’s no reason not to treat it as a special day: Gift yourself an evening of psychedelic jazz by Frog Squad. This Memphis-based, avant-garde band curates and arranges songs from artists such as Thelonious Monk, Erik Satie, George Coleman and Horace Silver, and band leader David Collins composes eclectic, original music. The free show is sponsored by the Memphis Medical District Collaborative. 9 p.m. Free. 598 Monroe Ave. Click here for more information. — Phillips

Cooper-Young First Responder Gift Bag Event, Saturday:

The Cooper-Young Community Association is inviting the public to help them stuff gift bags for police officers, firefighters, and other first responders on Dec. 24. (Brad Vest/The Daily Memphian file)

While many of us will be off work and spending the holidays with family, local cops and firefighters will be putting in the hours to keep us safe. So the Cooper-Young Community Association is offering a way for Memphians to give back. Bring a goodie to donate (homemade and store-bought gifts will be accepted), and help stuff bags to be delivered to first responders after the event. 7 p.m. Free. 2298 Young Ave. Click here for more information. — Phillips

“Merry Christmas Plated Special” at the Guest House at Graceland, Sunday:

Don’t want to cook on Christmas Day? Dine like a king — or at least, “The King” — at Delta’s Restaurant at The Guest House at Graceland. They’ll be serving Christmas dinner with chicken lasagna, prime rib, veggie sides and a holiday-themed dessert buffet. You can actually dine all day at Delta’s if you want; they’re also serving a breakfast buffet from 6 to 11 a.m. And the more casual EP’s Bar and Grill will be open on Christmas Day, as well. Dinner will be served at Delta’s from noon to 8 p.m. $39 adults or $15 for children 12 and under. 3600 Elvis Presley Blvd. Click here for more information. — Phillips

Christmas isn’t the most wonderful time of the year for everyone. Maybe you’re dealing with some serious life stuff. Maybe you’re just tired of your family. Or maybe you’re all alone this Christmas. Either way, on Christmas night, the Hi-Tone is inviting everyone to come cry it out together at “Emo Night: Cry Hard” (get it, like “Die Hard.” It’s a Christmas movie, folks). Expect covers of all the emo songs you’re ashamed to love. Guyliner, swoopy bangs and skinny jeans are optional. 8 p.m. $10. 282 N. Cleveland St. Click here for tickets. — Phillips

Grizzlies watch party at Slider Inn Downtown, Sunday:

It’s a franchise first for the Grizzlies: A national television showcase on the NBA’s highest-profile regular season day. If you’re looking for somewhere to watch the team’s Christmas Day showdown with the defending champion Golden State Warriors, Slider Inn’s Downtown location is hosting a watch party, with drink specials starting at 5 p.m. Game tips at 7 p.m. 363 Mulberry St. See here for more info. — Herrington.

“Sheiks-mas” with the Memphis Sheiks at Bar DKDC, Sunday:

If you want to end your Christmas in rockin’ form, Cooper-Young’s intimate Bar DKDC might be the place, where good-time Memphis rock and roll band the Sheiks will ring out the day, with promises of special guests. 10 p.m. 964 Cooper St. See here for more info. — Herrington

AutoZone Liberty Bowl at Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium, Wednesday:

Kansas head football coach Lance Leipold and Arkansas head football coach Sam Pittman met during a press conference on Thursday, December 8, 2022. Their two teams with face off at the AutoZone Liberty Bowl on Dec. 28. (Mark Weber/The Daily Memphian file)

In this year’s 64th annual AutoZone Liberty Bowl, the University of Arkansas Razorbacks will take on the Kansas University Jayhawks. Both teams are entering the contest with 6-6 records; you can read more about that here. The game kicks off at 4:30 p.m., but if you can’t make it to Liberty Stadium in person, you can also watch the game on ESPN. On Tuesday, Dec. 27, there will be a kick-off parade on Beale Street, featuring floats and marching bands, at 2 p.m., and that’s followed by a pep rally at Handy Park at 3:30 p.m. Later that night, the President’s Gala at The Peabody Hotel will feature Starship (of “We Built This City” fame; clearly, the highlight of the week, in my opinion). The parade and pep rally are free, but the gala will run you $200 per person (but come on; “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now” is worth it). The pre-game buffet party on Wednesday is sold out. Game starts at 4:30 p.m. $75 to $120. 335 Hollywood St. Click here for tickets and more information. — Phillips
