Six new teams will officially join the American Athletic Conference this summer.
North Texas, Charlotte, Florida Atlantic, Rice, Texas-San Antonio and Alabama-Birmingham will become AAC members on July 1. These teams will replace Houston, UCF and Cincinnati, each of which will be playing in the Big 12 next season.
UTSA is joining the conference after winning the Conference USA championship in back-to-back years. The Road Runners beat North Texas 48-27 in the 2022 title game. Memphis has played both schools the past two seasons.
Here is a quick snapshot of how each incoming team has fared against Memphis and the rest of the conference in the past. The six teams have a combined record of 125-195-4 including 18-25 against the Tigers. The record does not include games against the three programs that are leaving the AAC.
North Texas
Record against returning members: 17-74-1 Record vs. Memphis: 4-17 Last game vs. Memphis: 44-34 loss (2022)
Charlotte
Record against returning members: 0-2 Temple is the only school Charlotte has played.
Florida Atlantic
Record against returning members: 5-8 Record vs. Memphis: 1-1 Last game vs. Memphis: 25-10 loss (2020 Montgomery Bowl)
Rice
Record against returning members: 79-83-3 Record vs Memphis: 2-2 Last game vs. Memphis: 14-10 loss (2012)
UAB
Record against returning members: 21-28 Record vs. Memphis: 10-5 Last game vs. Memphis: 46-9 loss (2012)
UTSA
Record against returning members: 3-0 Record vs. Memphis: 1-0 Last game vs. Memphis: 28-31 win (2021)
