Spring practices are four days away for Memphis football.

The depth chart will not be finalized by the end of spring ball but it should allow several transfers to get acclimated with the team.

The Tigers will have many new faces and some of them will be expected to produce immediately. A few returning players will be getting used to playing in bigger roles than last year with Memphis losing players to graduation and the transfer portal.

All of that won’t be figured out by the end of spring practices but it’ll give the coaching staff an idea of what direction to go in for each position. Spring camp should also help improve the chemistry of the team.

I’m sure players have already spent time getting acclimated with one another but spring camp allows time for the new players can get acclimated with the offensive and defensive schemes. Mistakes will be more tolerable than they would be during fall camp in August.

The Tigers also have a new offensive line coach in Jeff Myers and a new wide receivers coach in Larry Smith. Spring practices will give those two a chance to fill out their position groups as they both try to improve on what their positions did last season.

Memphis is preparing for a season that needs to produce more wins than it did the last two seasons. The Tigers have more than five months before the season starts as they try to finish near the top of the standings in the new American Athletic Conference.
