Welcome back to the Tigers Football Insider, where we bring you the latest news and analysis from The Daily Memphian’s Frank Bonner II, Geoff Calkins and Tim Buckley each week.

Memphis coach Ryan Silverfield sounded confident in the talent on the offensive line when he spoke to the media on Tuesday.

The Tigers lost both starting tackles Austin Myers and Matt Dale who exhausted their eligibility after last season. Left guard Jonah Gambill, center Jacob Likes and right guard Davion Carter are the three starters returning from last year.

“The offensive line, it’s a bunch of guys who are out there competing,” Silverfield said. “We know the three interior guys who played a bunch of football last year. We have a lot of new faces at tackle. It’s been good to see.”

Makylan Pounders started at left tackle in the season opener against Mississippi State as a redshirt freshman last season. He appeared in seven games last year and Silverfield said he’s getting a lot of reps this spring. The Tigers also brought in a few transfers on the offensive line. Silverfield mentioned junior college transfer Chris Morris and former Arkansas lineman Marcus Henderson as viable options as well.

The offensive line struggled at times last season and the Tigers are hoping to correct that this year. Jeff Myers is entering his first season as the new offensive line coach replacing former O-line coach Jim Bridge who was on staff for three years.
