After dealing with criticism from fans and media members throughout much of his first six seasons as Memphis’ coach for playing lengthy rotations, Penny Hardaway is trying something new in Year 7.
The Tigers have jumped out to a 3-0 start to this season while relying more heavily on their starters than ever before under Hardaway.
Each of the team’s five starters — PJ Haggerty (35.7 minutes per game), Tyrese Hunter (34.3), Colby Rogers (31), Dain Dainja (27.3) and Nicholas Jourdain (24.7) — has averaged at least 24 minutes per game through the first three games. And only three other players — Moussa Cisse (16.7), Baraka Okojie (13.7) and PJ Carter (12) — are logging more than four minutes per game.
