Welcome to this week’s Tigers Basketball Insider. Below you’ll find the latest news and analysis from The Daily Memphian’s Parth Upadhyaya, John Martin, Tim Buckley and Geoff Calkins.

While the past week for Memphis basketball didn’t do much to bolster its metrics, the team’s performance did help solidify it as a contender for a top-five NCAA Tournament seed.

The No. 19 Tigers (16-4, 6-1 AAC) struggled to get past Wichita State in a 61-53 home win Thursday before demolishing rival UAB 100-77 at home Sunday. Those results left coach Penny Hardaway’s team tied with North Texas in first place in the American Athletic Conference standings with a 6-1 record in league play during a week Hardaway dubbed “separation week.”
