The Memphis Grizzlies’ Sunday debacle was so glaring in Game 1 that it allowed some good news to slide by.
While everyone was watching Memphis go down by 51 points in Oklahoma City, the NBA officially announced Grizzlies wing Jaylen Wells as a Rookie of the Year finalist.
Wells averaged 10.4 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.7 assists while starting 74 of 79 games in which he was available. He also proved to be one of the Grizzlies’ best wing defenders and often took the assignment of guarding the opponent’s best scorer.
