Welcome back to The To-Do List, where Daily Memphian staffers suggest their favorite events and activities for the coming week.
This week, the Memphis Zoo launches a new holiday lighting show with lanterns, and an Orpheum party goes “Back to the Future.”
‘12 Angry Jurors’ at Crosstown High, Thursday-Sunday:
“Hustle and Flow” director Craig Brewer helms Crosstown High’s production of “12 Angry Jurors,” a stage adaptation of Reginald Ross’ classic courtroom drama, “Twelve Angry Men.” The rest of the production staff and the cast is composed of students. 6:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 2 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Saturday, 2 p.m. Sunday $12, plus fees. 1365 Tower Ave. — Elle Perry
‘Come Again No More’ book event at Burke’s Book Store, Thursday:
 David Wesley Williams
Memphis novelist David Wesley Williams draws on a more than 30-year newspaper career, most of it at The Commercial Appeal, for his third published book, “Come Again No More.” It’s a newspaper novel and a Memphis novel, perhaps in equal measure, opening with a rowdy wake at a South Main bar for a group of journalists who have just been laid off: “death by paper cut.” It’s also a book that crosses from ramshackle Cooper-Young rentals to stately Shady Grove homes, haunting cemeteries and Midtown dive bars. We talked to Williams about the book this week, and he’ll be reading from it and signing copies at Cooper-Young’s Burke’s Books. 5:30 p.m. Free. 936 S. Cooper St. See here for more info. — Chris Herrington
‘Cigarette Girl’ at Studio on the Square, Thursday:
This feature from Memphis “exploitation” filmmaker Mike McCarthy gets a 15th anniversary screening, where it will be paired with a couple of McCarthy’s short films. Shot in Memphis, “Cigarette Girl” is a futuristic crime thriller in which smoking is only allowed in a certain section of the city, fostering a black-market economy and underworld culture. Actress Corie Dials makes for a striking figure as the title character. 7 p.m. $10. 2105 Court Ave. More info here.— Herrington
‘The Make-Up Show’ at Evergreen Theater, opening Thursday:
“The Break-Up Show,” from local writer and performer Savannah Bearden, is a long-running comedy act based on people’s real-life break-up stories. And now it’s teaming up with Friends of George’s for “The Make-Up Show,” a theatrical remix based around a fake TV network “built on bad decisions, digital dysfunction and way too much hairspray.” Expect comedy sketches of faux reality shows, silly commercials and more. Runs through Nov. 22. 8-10 p.m. Thursdays-Saturdays. $30 general admission or $60 for VIP seats and open-bar access. More info here. — Bianca Phillips

Goodbye, Zoo Lights. And hello, Lantern Festival. The zoo has refreshed its long-running holiday lighting exhibition with a brand-new fest created in partnership with Tianyu Arts & Culture. As you walk through the zoo, you’ll encounter more than 60 larger-than-life, illuminated fixtures. Most lanterns are animal shapes (lions, snakes, bears, oh my!), but you’ll also see a giant glowing pyramid, radiating lotuses and more. Runs through Feb. 1. 5-9:30 p.m. on select nights. Memphis Zoo Lantern Festival is a separately ticketed event and costs $23 for zoo members or $25 for non-members. 2000 Printess Place. More info here. — Phillips

Orpheum Soiree at the Orpheum Theatre, Friday:
Fire up your DeLorean and head over to the Orpheum for their annual soiree. This one is “Back to the Future”-themed since the musical version of the 1980s time-travel classic is coming to the Orpheum stage in March. There will be themed cocktails, brews from Soul & Spirits, treats from local eateries (including Tsunami, JEM Dining, Barware and more), an old-school soda shop with Poppz and live music from Nick Black and friends. You can also win a prize package from Genesis Diamonds and bid on a new Honda Accord during the live auction. 7 p.m. $150. 203 S. Main St. More info here. — Phillips

Playhouse on the Square brings its fourth production of “The Wizard of Oz.” (Halo/Courtesy Playhouse on the Square)
In a growing tradition, Playhouse on the Square and director Whitney Branan will mount their fourth production of “The Wizard of Oz.” The classic musical tells the story of Dorothy Gale, the young girl swept by a tornado from Kansas to the magical Land of Oz. Branan says it is the same story people expect, with some new twists and updated choreography. Read more about it in our theater guide. 7 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, 2 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Runs through Dec. 21 $25 66 S. Cooper St. Tickets here. — Alys Drake
Pudding Mit Gabel Coffee Rave at Wiseacre OG, Saturday:
Per Mashable, Pudding Mit Gabel is a trend in which young people in Germany eat pudding with a fork. (“Pudding Mit Gabel” literally means “pudding with fork.”) It happens en masse, as seen on TikTok. Across the U.S., young people are having day parties fueled by coffee and DJs. To borrow a meme from another language, “Por que no los dos?” In Wiseacre’s event description, the organizers say, “In an effort to promote some friend-making we are planning some fun, free and silly events to provide an opportunity to meet new people.” For the coffee-rave portion, Team Car Cafe will provide the coffee and Bodywerk DJs Nate Packard and Jess Digitech (Jess Jackson) will provide the tunes. The event is all ages. Noon to 3 p.m. Free, but RSVPs requested. 2783 Broad Ave. — Perry
Legends of the Hidden Temple: Hampline Edition at Hampline, Saturday:
Hampline Brewing will host Legends of the Hidden Temple on Saturday, Nov. 15. (Brad Vest/The Daily Memphian file)
Inspired by the Nickelodeon show “Legends of the Hidden Temple,” this event is a fundraiser for Memphis theater company LoneTree Live. Teams of two to four — if you come alone, they’ll pair you with someone — will tackle trivia, obstacle courses and puzzles. You’ll come up with a team name in the style of the show. (Think “silver snakes.”) There are prizes after each round, as well as a grand prize. The event promises a “moat crossing,” so if you go, please report back. The event is for those 18 and up. 2-5 p.m. $10 per player. 584 Tillman St., Suite 1. —Perry

Opera Memphis’ ‘LaZer Divas Versus the Sky Pirates of Destiny’ at Sharpe AutoZone Planetarium at the Pink Palace Mansion, Saturday:
Opera Memphis will perform inside the Pink Palace for the first time for the “LaZer Divas Versus the Sky Pirates of Destiny,” a laser light show. The idea is that attendees entering the planetarium are actually entering an “interstellar cruise ship” and that the entertainers are “cloned divas from history.” After the show starts, the audience’s “cruise ship” will be boarded by “a group of space pirates who are eager to prove their vocal supremacy.” Opera Memphis general manager Ned Canty says the lighthearted production is like a sketch comedy show that meets opera’s greatest hits. 7 and 8:30 p.m. $30.75 (tickets here). 3050 Central Ave. — Perry
Memphis Zine Fest at HavenHaus, Sunday:
Memphis Zine Fest is at HavenHaus on Sunday, Nov. 16. (Courtesy Erica Qualy)
Zine maker Erica Qualy’s Zine Fest is turning 10 this year. For the past many years, the fest was hosted at Crosstown Arts, and the last few were in conjunction with a record swap. But Zine Fest has moved to HavenHaus (the space behind Earnestine & Hazel’s). You’ll still get the all-ages zine-making workshops, and local vendors will be selling their zines and other wares (That’s little homemade magazines for those not in the know.) Noon-4 p.m. Free, but a $5 donation is suggested. 84 East G.E. Patterson. More info here. — Phillips
Puppies and Yoga at SANA Yoga, Sunday:
Do downward-facing dogs with actual dogs, and breathe in puppy breath during your lion’s breath. And it’s all for a great cause. Blues City Animal Rescue will bring adoptable pups to class, and they’ll be roaming around while you’re bending around. The $25 donation goes directly to Blues City’s work rescuing, healing and rehoming abandoned and neglected dogs. And if you fall in love with a little yoga partner, you can take one home. All of the dogs in class are up for adoption. Oh, and stick around for snacks after class. 1:30 p.m. 696 Madison Ave. Buy tickets here. — Phillips
