Hey, Memphis. It’s Tuesday, March 24, and the Memphis City Council will be talking — again — about the city’s procedure for resolving contract deadlocks with labor unions.
THE NEED TO KNOW

Trump wuz here: As expected, President Donald Trump credited the city’s crime decline to his Memphis Safe Task Force during his visit here Monday. He also praised Memphis Mayor Paul Young and said he was going to Graceland and regretted never meeting Elvis. “Sometimes I feel I should tell the little fib, that I knew him well,” said Trump. As for matters far from Memphis, Trump also addressed the latest in his war with Iran. Trump’s visit drew a large protest in Shelby Farms Park, outside the Task Force staging operation. Back to Young though: The mayor wasn’t at Trump’s talk but later acknowledged “we still have work to do” to get crime down. And to get there, he might implement a youth curfew. Want more? Geoff Calkins has a rundown of Trump quotes, including what he had to say about the building’s sound system.
Memphis Made’s taproom moved to the Edge District in 2024. (Greg Campbell/The Daily Memphian file)
Pour one out … for Memphis Made Brewing Co.’s taproom. The spacious bar overlooking the Edge District’s Ravine is closing after this weekend. Memphis Made filed for bankruptcy last year, and the taproom closure is intended to simplify the business model as the company seeks a buyer. That said, you’ll still find Memphis Made beer in grocery stores and bars. And if you’re craving a taproom experience, Memphis Made isn’t leaving the airport.
A rendering shows the Chick-fil-A proposed for Poplar Avenue and Bray Station Road in Collierville. (Submitted)
Chicken fight: It seems Collierville leaders don’t want “mor chickin.” The town’s Board of Mayor and Aldermen was recently ordered by a judge to approve a Chick-fil-A that they voted down two years ago. But on Monday, the board voted to appeal the judge’s decision. Board members denied the Chick-fil-A in January 2024 over traffic concerns, and the landowner for the site sued.
MEET MEMPHIS
 Rob Sneed
Fox13 freelance anchor and reporter Rob Sneed hasn’t been here long, but he’s already gotten a very Memphis welcome. In fact, you’ve probably already read some of the 20,000-plus comments on Fox13’s social-media post introducing Sneed. It went viral as commenters roasted Sneed, calling him everything from a “South Memphis Miguel” to an “Ole Covington Pike car salesman-looking a--.” Sneed, who says he loved all the comments, gets recognized in public now. But his journey to becoming a successful anchor hasn’t been easy.
THE NICE TO KNOW

Hawks ate us for dinner: Even though fans know we’re supposed to be losing these days, Memphis Grizzlies basketball is getting hard to watch. Case in point: Last night’s clobbering by the Atlanta Hawks, which ended with a 146-107 victory in a game where the Grizzlies fell behind by as many as 43 points before the fourth quarter began. There was even a new Grizz injury to add to the massive list of benched players. But all of this is good news for our NBA Draft positioning, which moved up last night.
Construction crews worked on the new Frayser high school on Oct. 22, 2025. (Patrick Lantrip/The Daily Memphian file)
What’s in a name? Memphis-Shelby County Schools board members have narrowed down names for the new Frayser high school that’s opening in the 2027-28 school year. Community members and students voted on five options, and those have been narrowed down to two: Bay High School or Frayser-Trezevant Community School. “Bay” is a reference to the neighborhood’s nickname, and it had the most votes from the public. In other MSCS board news, members will soon consider whether to sell buildings to two charter schools.
“This practice model is probably nothing these guys have seen before,” University of Memphis football coach Charles Huff said Monday, March 23. (Greg Campbell/Special to The Daily Memphian)
Practice makes perfect? Spring has sprung, and that means Memphis Tigers football practice is on. The team had their first practice under new Coach Charles Huff Monday. There are 75 new players this season, but Huff had his eye on one guy who followed him to Memphis from his last job at Southern Miss. As for how practice went, let’s hear it from Huff: “The first half of practice, we looked like a team that’s got a lot of potential. … The second half, we looked kind of like Cordova High School.” (Ouch.)
WHAT WE’RE TALKING ABOUT
Well, this happened during Trump’s visit to Memphis.
Also, social media was abuzz with videos where Trump appeared to be sleeping during the talk.
That’s all for now. Let’s do it again tomorrow.
