When Malco Theatres Inc. opens its Powerhouse Cinema in March, it will be the first time Downtown Memphis has had a movie theater location since Muvico closed in Peabody Place in 2008.

Malco officials confirmed that the theater, at 45 G.E. Patterson, will open next month. Details on the exact date are forthcoming. The historic building’s name comes from the power plant that once served Central Station.

Earlier this month, Malco posted on Facebook and Instagram that the company was accepting job applications for Powerhouse, including kitchen positions, bartender, concessions, box office and usher.

The LinkedIn job listing for the bartender states the theater will have a full bar that includes draft beer, wine, frozen margaritas, daiquiris, milkshakes and cocktails. The listing adds that the bar will feature a pizza oven.

The seven-screen theater is part of Henry Turley Co. and Community Capital’s $55 million redevelopment of Central Station.

That project includes an expanded Amtrak station, 200 newly constructed apartments, a boutique hotel (a Curio Collection by Hilton) and a new concourse that will connect Main Street to a refurbished Memphis Farmers Market.
