The investigation into the death of Tyre Nichols dominated the week’s metro news. Most recently, the Memphis Police Department fired five officers involved in the confrontation; lawyers representing Nichols’ family addressed the media after they viewed video footage from the incident; and the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office said it would publicly release the video “this week or next.” Lisa Marie Presley was laid to rest at Graceland on Sunday. More than a thousand mourners — including Axl Rose, Billy Corgan and Alanis Morrisette — gathered to remember the daughter of Elvis Presley, who died in Los Angeles on Jan. 12. A new name could be teed up for Audubon Park. Memphis City Council member Patrice Robinson has proposed changing the name to Memphis Botanical Park, and the council is set to discuss the issue Tuesday, Jan. 24, during an executive committee session. In other outdoor (and indoor news): The Daily Memphian reported on local Memphis business Taproute creating a water refill alternative for runners and cyclists, and Urban Earth Garden Market and Nursery hosting an inside look at houseplant care and maintenance. — Metro editor Jane Donahoe
