Brent Rooker made baseball look easy at ECS. After a period of adjustment, he had similar success in college.
The big leagues, however, are a different ball game entirely and while he’s had some moments, Rooker’s career never really got going until this season. In Oakland, he’s getting a chance to play every day and is responding with an all-star caliber season.
Rooker holds the Spring Fling record for home runs in a game and local athletes will be looking to make their own marks when the competition begins next week. Chief among them is Central’s Zavien Wolfe, who broke the state triple jump record — by nearly a foot — in sectional qualifying.
The Daily Memphian will be on the scene in Murfreesboro but we still need your help in spotlighting our best prep athletes. Coaches and stat-keepers can send in their scores, highlights and top performers from each game. Email jvarlas@dailymemphian.com or tweet @johnvarlas.
