The Week in Prep Sports

The recent snowy weather brought about a host of high school basketball postponements and re-schedulings. It will also set up a frantic final few weeks of the regular season for teams harboring state tournament dreams.

As usual, Class 4A boys has some strong candidates for Murfreesboro with Bartlett and Cordova — currently ranked first and second in the TSWA poll — leading the charge. Ridgeway boys are looking good for a repeat trip in Class 3A while undefeated Douglass is poised for another trip in 2A after finishing as runner-up in 2023.

Division 2 holds its tournament in Cookeville and Briarcrest boys, FACS boys and Hutchison are leading the way.

Of course, those are just the local teams currently state-ranked. Any number of teams have potential to catch fire down the stretch and make a push for the gold ball. As a wise man once said, that’s why you play the games.

And with the games coming fast and furious, we’ll need your help more than ever to spotlight our top players. Coaches and stat-keepers can send in their scores, highlights and top performers from each game, either by emailing jvarlas@dailymemphian.com or on X, formerly known as Twitter, @johnvarlas.
