The Week in Prep Sports

At Bartlett, winning district basketball titles is twice as nice.

Both the boys' and girls' teams won championships in the first postseason tournament of the season, and as a result, both teams will have No. 1 seeds for the upcoming regional. And both coaches — Dion Real and Wes Shappley, respectively — used the same adjective to describe their teams.

Tough.

Shappley’s girls held off a determined Collierville team, 51-42, using a key fourth-quarter stretch to put away the Dragons. Real’s boys got a big game from R’Chaun King to down Cordova, 65-59, in the third meeting of the season between Tennessee’s top Class 4A teams.

Both Bartlett and Cordova have had a spell at number one, but finishing the season on top will be, in a word, tough. Stay tuned.

And as always, we need your help in spotlighting our area’s top prep performers, especially with spring sports set to begin soon. Coaches and stat-keepers can send in their scores, highlights and top performers from each game either by emailing jvarlas@dailymemphian.com or on Twitter @johnvarlas.
