The Week in Prep Sports

Jack Gleason and Phinn Waters don’t have a whole lot of competition in the race for Memphis’ best high school pitcher. Instead, the competition comes from each other. Gleason, a senior, and sophomore Waters are the joint aces of a Briarcrest staff that has had plenty of success this year when either one has been on the mound. Speaking of competition, Sheffield’s Radarious Jackson didn’t have much in Class 3A football last season. He was named Mr. Football and this week became the latest highly regarded in-state transfer to commit to Tennessee. And as always, we need your help in spotlighting the best competitors on the field. Coaches and stat-keepers can send in their scores, highlights and top performers from each game. Email jvarlas@dailymemphian.com or tweet @johnvarlas.
