The Week in Prep Sports

The Houston High girls soccer team has been here before.

In the late 2010s, when the Mustangs dominated the sport on a state-wide level. Houston also ascended to the top ranking in the U.S. The program won the last of its state titles in 2018 and ending that drought is the primary goal for this year’s talented team, which is 10-0 and ranked first in the country according to MaxPreps.

Speaking of Houston No. 1s, the football team maintained its top spot in the Dandy Dozen this week after winning its 16th game in a row. The Mustangs face resurgent region rival Whitehaven and standout running back Christopher Talley in one of this week’s featured games.

And as always, we need your help in spotlighting our top fall sports athletes. Coaches and stat-keepers can send in their scores, highlights and top performers from each game. Email jvarlas@dailymenphian.com or tweet @johnvarlas.
