The Week in Prep Sports

Paige Whitted can hardly remember a time when basketball wasn’t central to her life. But six months on the sidelines gave her a new perspective on the sport — while helping her find herself.

Whitted — a senior at Briarcrest who will play collegiately at Cincinnati — was diagnosed with mono in January and didn’t so much as look at a basketball until June. The time away allowed her to focus on cultivating her true self, which, in turn, enabled her to remember why she loves basketball.

Elsewhere, MUS won the region golf tournament this week and will lead the local contingent at the state tournament in two weeks’ time.

And as always, we need your help in spotlighting our top prep athletes. Coaches and stat-keepers can send in their scores, highlights and top performers from each game either by emailing jvarlas@dailymemphian.com or via X @johnvarlas. — John Varlas
