The Week in Prep Sports

With more state championships than any public school in Tennessee, East High is rightly recognized as a “basketball school.” The Mustangs, however, also have some terrific football tradition. And this year’s team has a chance to wake up the echoes. Heading into Week 7, Coach Greg Moore’s team is 5-1 and riding a five-game winning streak. The team has a core of talented young players and a staff of assistant coaches who know what it takes to reach the summit with one having played on the 1999 state title winner and another on the 2016 championship squad. Speaking of championships, the rest of the fall sports are gearing up for the postseason soon to come. Golf is first on deck with volleyball, girls soccer and cross country soon to follow. And as always, we need your help in spotlighting our top prep athletes. Coaches and stat-keepers can send in their scores, highlights and top performers after each game, either by emailing jvarlas@dailymemphian.com or on Twitter @johnvarlas.
