Early voting is solidly underway in Shelby County and The Daily Memphian has all of the information you need before heading out to cast your general election ballot. Through a series of stories last week, Bill Dries and Samuel Hardiman set up the ballot’s races, from those that are hotly contested to those flying solidly under the radar. Election coverage is free to all readers through Election Day.

Also last week, the Memphis Area Transit Authority got a brand-new slate of board members with the City Council’s confirmation of nine appointees. The votes came after Mayor Paul Young sacked the previous board in a “hard reset” of the MATA leadership.

Last in our “Point of Impact” series on guns, The Daily Memphian speaks with two people who grew up within some of the city’s most violent neighborhoods. They share how a pervasive gun culture shaped their childhoods and teenage years, and how they would weigh in on possible gun control measures. Our “Point of Impact” stories have been running throughout the month of October; find all of them here.

We hope you enjoy catching up on the latest news stories from our community. If you’re a Daily Memphian subscriber, we appreciate your support. If not, please consider signing up for unlimited access to all of our local news coverage.
