The Week in Prep Sports

A state championship match should be a special occasion. But some in the local soccer community feel that might not be the case this year.

This week, coaches expressed their displeasure about the TSSAA’s decision to move the finals in each of five classifications from CHI Stadium in Chattanooga to Boyd-Buchanan High. A change to grass, and concerns about it holding up for five matches, prompted the move.

TSSAA officials, while acknowledging the coaches’ frustrations, said they would work to ensure the new venue is championship-worthy.

In addition to soccer, state volleyball champs will also be ground this week with Northpoint’s history-making season taking center stage.

And as always, we need your help in spotlighting our top prep athletes. Coaches and stat-keepers can send in their scores, highlights and top performers from each game either by emailing jvarlas@dailymemphian.com or on X @johnvarlas.
