The Week in Prep Sports

Seven local players — including two returning 2023 winners — are in the running for the state’s top prize.

The TSSAA announced the semifinalists for the Tennessee Titans Mr. Football award this week with Kelvin Perkins and Radarious Jackson leading the way. Perkins, Southwind’s standout quarterback, was the Class 5A winner last year while Sheffield’s Jackson, a two-way threat, won in Class 3A.

The winners will be announced Dec. 10 at Nissan Stadium in Nashville.

That is the Tuesday after the BlueCross Bowl concludes and the road to Chattanooga begins this week with first-round playoff games around the city.

And as always we need your help in spotlighting our best. Coaches and stat-keepers can send in their scores, highlights and top performers from each game either by emailing jvarlas@dailymrmphian.com or on X @johnvarlas.
