The U.S. Department of Justice last week released the findings of its 17-month investigation into the Memphis Police Department. But the City of Memphis jumped out in front of the release, publicizing the fact that it has no plans to enter into a consent decree over the scathing findings, at least not immediately. The Daily Memphian’s metro team analyzed and wrote about the report in 11 separate stories; find links to all of our coverage on the here. Also making headlines last week was xAI’s expansion announcement. The company said it would spend billions more on additional capacity at its Memphis supercomputer over the next several years and three other key suppliers and tech giants would follow its lead to the Bluff City: Nvidia, Super Micro Computer and Dell. But, as The Daily Memphian’s Samuel Hardiman reports, the planned expansion comes with a pressing question: Where will the project get its power? Also, the embattled director of Memphis Animal Services is officially out; a Memphis doctor spoke with The Daily Memphian’s Jody Callahan about her involvement in a lawsuit challenging the state’s ban on gender-affirming care, a suit that made it all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court last week; and the city’s love affair with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and its largest single-day fundraising event, continued this weekend as some 22,500 runners took to the streets of Midtown and Downtown. — Metro editor Jane Donahoe
