The Week in Prep Sports

Skylan Smith made plenty of history for Covington’s football team this season. He made more this week.

Smith, a senior, was named Class 3A Mr. Football during ceremonies at Nissan Stadium in Nashville this week. After finishing as a finalist in 2023, he becomes the first winner in school history and the first winner from Tipton County.

During the season, Smith broke school records for career rushing yards and touchdowns.

Basketball takes center stage this weekend as the Grind Session returns for three days of high-level hoops. Briarcrest and P7 Sports will host the games.

And as always, we need your help in spotlighting our top prep athletes. Coaches and stat-keepers can send in their scores, highlights and top performers from each game either by emailing jvarlas@dailymemphian.com or on X @johnvarlas.
