The high school football season has officially come to an end. And Rhyan Brown went out on top. Brown, a senior at Melrose, capped off his fine prep career by being named the offensive most-valuable player at this year’s AutoZone Liberty Bowl high school all-star game. Just seven days after leading Melrose to a runner-up finish in Class 4A, he rushed for 108 yards and scored a touchdown to lead the Red team to a 30-6 victory against the Blue in the annual game at MUS. Brown’s Red team teammate, Fairley defensive end Delandis Dandridge, was the defensive MVP for the winning squad coached by Sheffield’s Edwad Kuykendoll. A long touchdown pass from Collierville’s Grant Troutman to Gary Greer of Southwind provided the only points for the Blue team, coached by Bolton’s C.J. Marshall. Elsewhere, we continue to honor our top fall-sport athletes with our all-metro teams and postseason awards. One year removed from a torn ACL, Houston senior McKlain Jones is our girls soccer player of the year. Cross-country, volleyball and football will follow in short order. And as always, we need your help in recognizing our top prep performers. Coaches and stat-keepers can send in their scores, highlights and top performers from each game either by emailing jvarlas@dailymemphian.com or on X @johnvarlas.
P.S. You can help ensure all high school athletes and sports get the coverage they deserve throughout 2025. All you have to do is take action and donate to The Daily Memphian now. Are you in?
