The Week in Review

Displaced federal workers shared their stories as they struggle after being laid off while the Trump administration and Elon Musk’s DOGE team trim government services. However, one worker reclaimed her position after an error in her dismissal was found. After legal funding for immigrant children was suddenly halted, it was just as suddenly restored.

Musk continued to make local news as he revealed the reasons he chose Memphis for his xAI facility and the Memphis City Council approved a land sale to his business. Meanwhile, the City of Memphis named a task force, led by former federal Judge Bernice Donald, to monitor the Memphis Police Department, and Mayor Paul Young floated a proposal for a guaranteed income. In Nashville, local lawmakers have been busy filing bills to restructure juvenile court, study the need for a third bridge to Arkansas and more.

Finally, the saga of the Memphis-Shelby County Schools’ removal of Marie Feagins continues with her attorneys seeking the phone records of board members.
