The Week in Prep Sports

The ever-evolving landscape of high school athletics took another important turn this week.

At its meeting in Nashville, the TSSAA’s legislative council voted to do away with the residency rule for high school athletes. The move comes after the council in March passed a one-time transfer rule, provided it’s for reasons unrelated to athletics.

Elsewhere, FACS has named former assistant Doug Abernathy as its new football coach. Ironically, Abernathy will make his debut in August against the man he replaces, St. Benedict coach Mitch McDaniel.

And as always, we need your help in spotlighting our top prep athletes. Coaches and stat-keepers can send in their scores, highlights and top performers from each game either by emailing jvarlas@dailymemphian.com or on X @johnvarlas.
