The Week in Review

As Memphis-Shelby County Schools considers long-term real estate plans, district officials have set a deadline for the future of its vacant buildings: Ones that aren’t sold by the end of June could be demolished. The Daily Memphian’s Laura Testino reported last week on the district’s plans for its vacant buildings, plans that have been in the works at least December, including the gauging of potential buyers for the Bayer Consumer Health Campus at 3030 Jackson Ave., once positioned to be the Memphis school system’s new central headquarters.

Five international students at the University of Memphis are in limbo after ICE terminated their student visas last week, leaving them little recourse but to get lawyers and fight or immediately leave the country. Ten international students at Christian Brothers University have also lost status to remain in the U.S., according to local immigration lawyers consulting on some of the cases. The Daily Memphian’s Jane Roberts reports that the issue is setting up new quandaries for college administrators.

And, in light of news that R&B artist Chris Brown will play a concert at Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium in October, “Ask the Memphian” looks at the concert history of the football stadium. The feature from reporter Jody Callahan asks the question why, for roughly three decades, have the only musicians who played at Liberty Stadium been marching bands?
