The Week in Prep Sports

Baseball and soccer at Houston High was in the spotlight this week.

The baseball team is preparing to host the upcoming District 15-4A tournament as the No. 1 seed thanks in large part to the hitting of Collin Bland. The junior first baseman — who is committed to SEC powerhouse Vanderbilt — has already broken the school’s single-season home run record, thanks to his diligent preparation and a special pregame meal.

The soccer team, meanwhile, picked up an impressive victory against archrival Collierville this week and seems to have found its goal-scoring touch. That coach make the Mustangs dangerous with the postseason beginning next week.

And as always, we need your help in spotlighting our top prep athletes as the push toward Spring Fling 2025 heats up. Coaches and stat-keepers can send in their scores, highlights and top performers from each game either by emailing jvarlas@dailymemphian.com or on X @johnvarlas.
