Hey, did you hear the Grizzlies traded Desmond Bane?
That’s how conversations around Memphis went following the Father’s Day deal that sent Bane to the Orlando Magic, a development that put Drew Hill and Chris Herrington to work on the move and its ramifications.
Herrington broke down the trade’s nuances, then examined the reimagined post-deal NBA trade market now open to the Grizzlies.
Hill examined potential selections for the franchise in the June 25-26 NBA Draft now that it acquired Orlando’s first-round 2025 pick as part of the package it received in return. He also reported on what Grizzlies star Ja Morant had to say on social media about his own post-trade status in Memphis and went to work on a farewell piece as Bane packs for Florida.
Herrington and Hill also somehow found time to tag-team on a day-after podcast, too.
The duo’s work highlighted The Daily Memphian sports staff’s work during a week that also saw Frank Bonner II catch up with American Athletic Conference commissioner Tim Pernetti for an interview that produced multiple stories, John Martin weigh in on potential changes for the Memphis Tigers athletic department in light of House vs. the NCAA lawsuit settlement approval and John Varlas report on the status of course improvements at TPC Southwind, home of August’s FedEx St. Jude Championship.
