Shelby County Sheriff’s Office investigators are still trying to find out what led to the fatal mass shooting that claimed the life of Corey Adams, an 18-year-old football player from Louisiana. Adams was on the cusp of his freshman season at Ole Miss when he went to the Saturday night pool party in Cordvoa. On Monday, his family members stood at a sheriff’s office podium to ask the public for help with information that would aid in the investigation. “I can’t give my son the rest of what I wanted to give him,” said Adams’ mother, Chantrel Bernhart. “The least of what I can do is give him justice.”

Memphis Mayor Paul Young has reshuffled his cabinet in recent months and on July 10, hosted an overnight executive retreat at Bass Pro Shops, which he called “an opportunity to really recalibrate the team.” Young has installed several new department heads, had several key departures, appointed the city’s first head of development and infrastructure, and recalibrated City Hall’s org chart. He told The Daily Memphian’s Samuel Hardiman that the retreat — coming after the personnel shuffle — represented an opportunity for city leaders to remove some distractions and learn to work together.

Also, Porter-Leath beat out MSCS for local management of a $30 million, federally funded preschool program known as Head Start; Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence company xAI purchased a former Duke Energy plant in Southaven; and the U.S. Department of Justice said it had indicted eight alleged members of a Memphis-based street gang for various crimes between 2022 and 2024.
