The Week in Prep Sports

They took differing routes to get there. But Jada Lin and Brantley Moore can both proudly call themselves state golf champions.

Lin, a freshman at St. Mary’s, took control of the Division 2-AA girls tournament at Sevierville Golf Club by opening with a terrific round Monday. Then she played nice and steady Tuesday to become her school’s first state champ.

Moore, a junior at MUS, put himself in a strong position with a late birdie binge in the first round. Then after the leader faded on No. 18, Moore was there to capitalize.

His efforts also led the Owls to a runner-up team finish, one place ahead of CBHS.

In football, Fairley’s Frederick Copeland and Chaz Wiseman of Memphis Business Academy were selected as coaches for the 23rd edition of the AutoZone Liberty Bowl all-star game.

And as always, we need your help in spotlighting our to prep athletes. Coaches and stat-keepers can send in their scores, highlights and top performers from each game either by emailing jvarlas@dailymemphian.com or on X @johnvarlas.
