The National Guard officially arrived in Memphis on Friday and were seen at the Bass Pro Shop at the Pyramid. As the 700 member Task Force ramps up, word on how they will track arrests and what they will be focused on has begun to come out.

In other news, Shelby County Mayor Lee Harris vetoed the Shelby County Commission’s decision to put all Memphis-Shelby County Schools board members on the ballot this spring, but the commission could bring the resolution back and override Harris’ veto with another vote within the next 30 days.

Reporter Laura Testino reveals who benefitted from Tennessee’s new school vouchers. Memphis has paid down on bonds for the Downtown Sheraton which has not been bought yet, and the Memphis libraries changed “Banned Books Week” to “Freedom to Read Week.” And state Rep. Justin J. Pearson announced he will challenge U.S. Rep. Steve Cohen in the 2026 Democratic primary.

On a spookier note, “Ask the Memphian” tackles Halloween and the Shelby Forest Pig Man.
