Two local basketball teams with eyes on making a March run flexed their muscles this week.
 
In Class 4A, a re-tooled Whitehaven squad defeated Southwind in a game featuring two state-ranked teams. After losing several seniors, coach Willie Kemp brought in several news faces.
 
It’s taken time to gel. But beating a good Southwind team on the road is a strong indicator of things to come.
 
Briarcrest, meanwhile, has several players who have been together for years, most notably senior Fred Smith Jr. and he was instrumental in a Division 2-AA rivalry win over MUS.
