An old-school players coach and some new age analytics have St. George’s back in the state baseball tournament for the first time in nine seasons.

The Gryphons are coached by former Mississippi State standout Jon Mungle. And as a former player, he’s cultivated a program in which players feel comfortable.

While at the same time, he’s embracing advanced metrics and different approaches to hitting that have produced some impressive offensive numbers.

Elsewhere, there was a change at one of the city’s most accomplished football programs with Duron Sutton leaving Ridgeway for Germantown.

And Lausanne’s tennis program extended its Division 2-A dominance during competition this week.
