The Daily Memphian had not one but two reporters spend much of last week in Chicago, where the NBA Draft Combine offered plenty of fodder for both Chris Herrington and Drew Hill as the Memphis Grizzlies prepare for the June 23-24 draft. It’s a crucial time for the Grizzlies, who own this year’s No. 3 overall selection. Hill and Herrington reported on and broke down not only who the Grizzlies might take with their coveted first-round pick, but their potential second-round acquisition at No. 32 overall as well. Also worth reading, speaking of the Grizzlies: Geoff Calkins’ piece on Brittnye Ostrom-Robinson, a former Grizzlies and Memphis Tigers pom squad dancer battling acute myeloid leukemia. Elsewhere in the basketball world, John Martin broke down the Tigers’ personnel situation heading into 2026-27 now that all but one spot on coach Penny Hardaway’s roster — one that is being held open intentionally, at least for now — has been filled. On the preps front, Spring Fling 2026 is in full gear — and John Varlas is there for the ride. Varlas already wrote about MUS senior McEwen Taylor, who will compete in three sprint events and the pole vault during Wednesday’s state meet in Knoxville; CBHS and Collierville’s boys soccer state-title aspirations; and a Division 2-A state championship for the ECS girls lacrosse team.
