Duron Sutton has had plenty of highs in his high school football coaching career — along with some recent lows.

But a new challenge has the veteran reenergized ahead of the 2026 season. He’s taken over the Germantown job after spending the last 16 seasons at Ridgeway.

The former Memphis Tiger said it was hard to leave a place he’s considered home. And Class 6A football will provide a whole new batch of problems to solve, not the least of which is one of the state’s most demanding schedules.

But football has given much to Sutton. And as a faithful steward of the game, he aims to keep giving back.

Elsewhere, we wrapped up our Spring Fling coverage with the Class 4A baseball final, where one bad inning ended Houston’s run. And we began to honor our best spring sports athletes with our postseason tennis awards with others soon to follow.
