At some programs, a three-win football season would be a disaster. At Houston, it’s part of the process.

Class 6A state champions in 2023 and runners-up the following year, a young and largely untested group of Mustangs struggled last year. But they improved as the year went on — evidenced by a first-round playoff win.

And now that they’re a year older and wiser, Houston’s players and coaches are eager to show that 2025 was indeed an anomaly. — John Varlas
