The dust has settled from last week’s busy ballot election, and Shelby County has a slew of newly elected officials, led by Mayor-elect Mickell Lowery.

But Memphians aren’t yet done casting votes in 2026.

Following federal and state primary results from Aug. 6 Election Day, citizens will now vote for federal and state representatives as well as the state’s chief executive for the first time in Tennessee’s history will be a woman.

• Republican U.S. Sen. Marsha Blackburn is running against Memphis City Council member and Democrat Jerri Green for the job of Tennessee governor.
• In Congressional District 9, two locally familiar faces got their parties’ nominations: State Rep. Justin J. Pearson for the Democrats and state Sen. Brent Taylor for the Republicans.
• District 8 will also be represented by a Shelby Countian: Democrat Heidi Kuhn, the outgoing Shelby County Criminal Court Clerk, will face longtime Republican Congressman David Kustoff of Germantown.
• District 5 is where things are decidedly less Memphis-centric: Republican Charlie Hatcher, who lives in Williamson County, will face Democrat Chaz Molder, a Democratic mayor from Columbia in Maury County. 
• There’s also a Senate seat on the November ballot, where incumbent Republican Bill Hagerty will face Democratic challenger Marquita Bradshaw. The two ran against each other for the same seat in 2020, when Hagerty won with more than 62% of the vote.
• Seats in the Tennessee General Assembly also hit the November ballot; most incumbent state representatives and senators won their primaries last week.
