Fittingly, on his 18th birthday, Dallan Hayden made his first “grown man” decision.

On Tuesday, the 2020 Division 2-AAA Mr. Football winner from CBHS announced that he was verbally committing to play college football at Ohio State. A host of Power 5 programs had made offers to Hayden but the race eventually came down to the Buckeyes and Notre Dame. A family visit to Columbus over Father’s Day weekend sealed the deal.

While Hayden knows where he’ll be going to college, another rising senior is just beginning to draw plenty of interest.

Bartlett’s Terrance “JR” Jacobs Jr., arguably the city’s best point guard prospect in the class of 2022, entered last weekend’s BCAT Hoopfest team tournament without any offers. When the 72-team event was over, he had offers from Jacksonville and Radford and his play in the event should mean there are more coming in the future.

And it’s postseason award time. The Daily Memphian has already announced its tennis, softball and swimming winners with the remainder of the spring sports soon to come. Stay tuned. — John Varlas
