What you see is what you get with Matthew Dallas. Dallas, a junior pitching standout at Briarcrest, is one of the area’s best talents on the mound. He’s heading to the University of Tennessee after graduation and is off to a solid start for the Saints, who are replacing several key pieces from last year’s squad. Off the field, he’s steady and unflappable, something you might expect from someone who grew up in a busy athletic household with four brothers and sisters. Caroline Schaefer knows all about staying busy; the 32-year-old was recently named as athletic director at Hutchison where she’ll oversee the athletic programs from elementary level up through high school. It will be a big challenge — she’s taking over for an AD who has been successful for over two decades — but one that Schaefer was built for. Hutchison is her alma mater and as a former athlete at the school, she knows the culture better than anyone. As spring sports continue to roll on, we continue to need your help spotlighting the area’s best. Coaches and stat-keepers are encouraged to send in their scores, highlights and top performers from each game night. E-mail jvarlas@dailymemphian.com or Tweet @johnvarlas. — John Varlas
