The Shelby County Commission delayed action last week on filling the vacant House District 91 seat in the Tennessee General Assembly, with some commissioners saying they didn’t see the urgent need to fill it since legislators have already ended their session for this year. State Rep. G.A. Hardaway (D-Memphis) urged commissioners to fill the vacancy created when state Rep. London Lamar took the state Senate seat left vacant after the conviction of former state Sen. Katrina Robinson. But Commissioner Edmund Ford Jr. said he thought appointing someone now might give that person an advantage in the August primaries for the seat. Meanwhile, Sherra Wright made her first appearance before a parole board concerning the facilitation to first-degree murder sentence she is serving in the death of her ex-husband, former NBA player Lorenzen Wright. One parole board member recommended that parole be denied, and other members will likely make their decision in the coming days. — Metro editor Ron Maxey
