J.D. Sherrod couldn’t wait to get back to work.

Moments after Briarcrest’s 2021 football season ended with a disappointingly early loss in the Division 2-AAA playoffs, Sherrod was already preparing for 2022. The team’s star quarterback uses post-game weightlifting to clear his head and wind down after the energy of a game but in this case, it also served as motivation while setting a tone for the season ahead.

Sherrod is back for his senior year after an all-state junior season and he’ll have a strong group of receivers to throw to, led by fellow seniors Max Carroll and Reed Linder. Look for the Saints to put up some prolific offensive numbers once again as they pursue the school’s first state championship in nearly two decades.

Briarcrest opens at home against Booker T. Washington on Aug. 19. And if you want to see the schedules for the Saints or any other team in The Daily Memphian coverage area, we have them for you on our preps page.

Additionally, Monday marks the start of the fall sports season, with competition for all TSSAA schools beginning in cross-country, girls soccer, golf and volleyball as well as football. And we need your help. Coaches and stat-keepers are asked to send in their scores, highlights and top performers after each game.
