Welcome back to your Grizzlies Insider, where you can find the latest NBA news and analysis from Daily Memphian staffers Drew Hill, Chris Herrington and Geoff Calkins.
If Ja Morant gained 12 pounds of muscle during the NBA’s initial coronavirus hiatus, how many pounds can he build up during the extended offseason?
The Grizzlies point guard has been putting in work this fall at IMG Academy down in Florida with notable trainer UJ Johnson and the same group that pushed him during the league’s break in the spring.
Thanks to a few Instagram videos, Morant’s training isn’t going unnoticed, and Grizzlies fans are getting a glimpse into what one of these strenuous workouts look like. Whew!
In between time at the gym, Morant is adding another title to his long list of personas: Las Vegas Aces superfan.
Morant live tweeted throughout most of the WNBA Finals games between the Aces and Seattle Storm, mostly in support of his friend and fellow South Carolina native A’ja Wilson.
Wilson was awarded the MVP award last month, and like Morant’s Rookie of the Year honor, that decision was nearly unanimous.
Unfortunately for the Grizz point guard, his Aces were swept by the Seattle Storm in three straight games to take home the title. The win gave Storm star Sue Bird her WNBA-record fourth championship.
Even Morant can respect that.
