As the season winds down, it’s only natural to start thinking of postseason scenarios.

For the Tigers, that means going through mental gymnastics to see the path for the team to make the AAC championship game.

Sitting at sixth place, it’s not a stretch for Memphis to make an improbable run, but it will need more than a little help.

That’s why Ryan Silverfield and the Tigers are leaving the hypotheticals to the fans and analysts while keeping the team focused on the goal this week: beating Stephen F. Austin.

“Even with our staff, I haven’t talked about, ‘Hey, if this team wins this or if this one loses that.’ What I have done after every game, a win or loss, I’ve talked about how all of our hopes and dreams are still there in front of us,” Silverfield said. 

The coach has preached since the offseason about the Tigers having their blinders on to remain focused.

His thinking is simple: Beat the team in front of you and everything else will sort itself out.

“That’s the approach we’re going to continue to take. Let’s go out there and control what we can control and see what the conference throws at us in terms of what games we have to play and handle the games in front of us,” Silverfield said.
